The ProWein Düsseldorf 2024, an international leading trade fair for wines and spirits, paved the way for the kickoff of "VINOEURO," the unique European championship that brings together football players from the wine sector, set in the picturesque Bairrada region of Portugal. From May 22nd to May 25th, 2024, eight teams representing their respective countries will converge in the municipalities of Anadia, Oliveira do Bairro, and Mealhada for an exhilarating sports and cultural extravaganza. Romania will be welcomed as the ninth member country into the UENFW - Union of European Winemaker Football National Teams during the opening night, marking a significant milestone in European sports history.
Following the draw on October 28, 2023, at the CAR Anadia auditorium, the Portuguese team will face off against Slovenia, Hungary, and Austria in Group A, while Group B will see defending champions Czech Republic competing against Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.
The official program kicks off with a warm welcome ceremony for all participating teams on May 21, 2024, at the Cineteatro Messias in Mealhada, followed by a delectable dinner featuring local gastronomy at one of the esteemed producers in the region.
On May 24, 2024, a thought-provoking conference on "Wine and Sport" will take place at the Quartel das Artes in Oliveira do Bairro, organized by the Associação de Futebol dos Vitivinicultores de Portugal. This will be followed by enriching tourist visits and a convivial dinner in the municipality.
In addition to the football competition, all teams will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and history of the Bairrada region, with scheduled visits to local producers, museums, and other points of interest.
The organizing committee of UENFW VINOEURO 2024 Portugal is dedicated to ensuring an unforgettable and exhilarating experience for all participating teams and their families in one of Portugal's most renowned wine regions. The event will culminate in a players' beach party at the breathtakingly beautiful Atlantic coast.
